PEEPING TOM by Michael Murray
Effect: A thought of card is stolen literally from the spectators mind!Performance/Method: Request the loan of a shuffled deck. Hold this face down in your left hand. Turn your gaze so that you can’t see any of the cards. Begin by taking the top card and flash its face to a willing spectator. Repeat this with the next card taking the second card below the first. Repeat this briskly with several cards and then request that the spectator think of one of them. As soon as you have delivered this line take four more cards in the same fashion as you ask whether the spectator has one in mind. If they reply positively you will know that they will be thinking of one of the last four cards that were shown to them. Place all of the cards that are in your right hand on top of the left hand portion holding a break as you do so. Cut all of the cards above the break to the bottom of the deck. Request that the spectator forget about their thought of card and request that they think of the mate of their chosen card instead (A card of the same colour and value). As you do this secretly cop the bottom for cards and hand the deck to the spectator. Turn your head and request that they remove the mate of their thought of card. As you turn your head you will secretly load the four stolen cards into your pocket remembering the values as you do so. Turn to face the spectator and you can now proceed to guess the mate that the spectator now holds (The fishing is very simple given that it will be the mate of one of the stolen cards. Once you have correctlyy identified the mate that the spectator now holds. Dramatically remove their original thought of card from your pocket!
Credits to Joe Riding/Mark Mason/Matthew Wright for the thought of card sequence and to Liam Montier for the thought stealing patter line.
Note: Should you cop a pair of cards which are the same colour there is a chance that the spectator will be thinking of one of these. If when you ask them to remove the mate they cannot do so then you can dramatically remove the pair of cards from your pocket before displaying them to your astonished spectator! Hope you enjoy using this!!!
