A deck of playing cards is a great tool for any magician or mentalist, they are compact, versatile, known all over the World and can provide you with an almost endless amount of amazing magic tricks. This problem became apparent to Phil and so he began to experiment with different ideas. The outcome of these brainstorming sessions resulted in the Creative Solutions Deck coming to light. You can perform all the sleight of hand you would with a normal deck of playing cards with the Creative Solutions Deck, yet enables you as the performer to step away from the usual ‘magic’ associations.

The Creative Solutions Deck is goes undercover as a deck of cards designed for creative problem solving and helping power through mental blocks. Each card has a short general truth typed in a clear black font on the face. In bold text on the front of the card also is a single word with a strong meaning ideal for invoking some sort of response from the spectators; for example some of the words are War, Love, Sex, Violence.

To any spectators the Creative Solutions Deck is a fair and natural product, easy to understand and innocent. However there is quite a bit more going on than meets the eye… Each deck contains two identical sets of 26 cards, with key words on the cards permitting an alphabet stack twice through. (I include details of a pangram stack to further hide this secret order should you choose to use it.) So straight away you can perform a whole load of tricks using this hidden feature… maybe that’s not enough though.

So I designed in a unique marking system that easily lets you see from the back of any card what is on the front. It works in a dark club, it works from across the room, it works with a quick peek, it is very powerful and unique to this deck. If you don’t know it’s there, the marking system is invisible, if you know it is there and what it is it is very clear and easy to read.

The Creative Solutions Deck is printed on poker sized Sure Slip stock by Ivory Graphics in the UK. As soon as you open up a deck you will immediately feel accustomed to it. An astonishing one-man illusion, Houdini’s Rope fills the stage with action and mystery; it’s the perfect small illusion, a practical effect for almost any show.

Jim Steinmeyer’s popular effect involves a hank of rope — supposedly an artifact from one of Houdini’s famous escapes. “Many people thought that he could actually dematerialize and pass through the rope. It sounds incredible, but I’d like to give you a demonstration.”

 
The magician stretches the rope across the stage and has it examined by two men from the audience. The spectators hold the ends of the rope as a small upright stand is rolled to the center of the rope. “This is the spot where I’m going to try to pass through the rope.” The magician steps up onto the stand, framed by the wooden uprights. He pauses behind the taut rope, then covers the center of the rope with a square of cloth. Dramatically, he steps forward, until the audience can see that he’s passed completely through Houdini’s Rope!

The strongest card tricks most often depend on a stack or special deck. Unfortunately, if you start with a gaffed deck, as soon as you have accomplished the impossible feat, its very strength causes audiences to say, "Let me see those cards!" With a deck switch, they can, because you just switched the gaffed deck for a normal one, which they can even take home! In his routine, a stick melts through a spectator's selected card, creating an actual hole on the card that they can stick their finger through. The hole then jumps from the selected card onto the rest of the pack, which can also be examined! The (W)Hole Deck resets in seconds and can be performed with any card. The strongest card tricks most often depend on a stack or special deck. Unfortunately, if you start with a gaffed deck, as soon as you have accomplished the impossible feat, its very strength causes audiences to say, "Let me see those cards!" With a deck switch, they can, because you just switched the gaffed deck for a normal one, which they can even take home! The “borrowed item to impossible location” is a classic of magic and for good reason. It always generates great reactions and interest because the props are personal to the spectator. It leaves itself open to great comedy, interaction, tension and suspense. It is an essential part of any good magic act.

I have tried many different impossible location routines over my thirty years in magic and The Marvelous Nut Dropper is by far my favorite in terms of routine, presentation, method and simplicity.

The first, “The Wizard’s Apprecntice” is my full twenty minute opener to my cabaret show. The classic pom pom stick with taps and plugs!

If you're not familiar with the classic pom pom effect, heres the effect:

The magician explains that his freind Clive is a plumber and has been working on a strange house this week. The magician displays a long pipe with taps attached at either end and plugs hanging on chains on each tap.

The performer explains that Clive was working on a house with two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The problem is that when Clive pulls the short downstairs plug the long upstairs plug gets short, and when he pulls the other one the reverse happens, they must be conected! However there not, as the performer shows that each chain runs freely through the taps not connected to anything!

The performer pulls the plugs in all differnet ways showing that the plugs are connected then not connected confusing the audience. The audience now think that the plugs MUST be connected within the pipe. But now the magician seperates the pipe in the middle showing there was NEVER any connection at all!

A much needed up dated version of the classic pom pom ball for the 21st century!

How do you make magic wands? Easy! You use a Wand Machine!

You display a box on all sides and then open it up and peer right through it. Once the box is closed again, a noisy handle is cranked, and a piece of square dowelling is taken out.

It’s the right sort of shape, but it should be rounded. The piece of wood is placed back in the box and the handle is cranked again. Out comes a rounded piece of wood. Perfect…except it needs to be coloured, so paint is tipped into the machine.

Unfortunately, things keep going wrong and you never seem to get quite the colour you want.
First the wand is all black, then all white, then striped, followed by spotted, then white with black ends before, finally, you end up with a proper black and white wand. The box is once again shown empty.

This DVD package will teach you Michael J Fitch's fantastic ‘Walking Knot’ routine, which was originated by Pavel, who died in 2011. Michael wanted an ungimmicked version (he explains why in the intro to this disc) and set about devising his own routine (hence the title). This is clearly discussed and demonstrated on this disc.

The spectator selects a card from a deck of numbered cards.

The magician then deals out four hands of cards and asks the spectator to guess which hand adds up to the same number he has chosen.?Incredibly, the spectator is correct. The chosen hand does add up to his selected number. But that's not all. Each of the other three hands also reveals the chosen number.

The four hands are quickly arranged into a 4 x 4 grid to form a magic square. Each column, diagonal, row now adds up to the chosen number. Even the four corners total the number.

These 40 cards are produced as exact copies of ones used by Allied military researchers during the height of the cold war.
The British Secret Service had somehow got hold of a number of items of soviet origin during one of its’ missions, and a version of these cards was among them.
They were translated and reproduced in the form you see here.
Information from a few separate sources enabled the British to piece together some of the experiments the soviets were conducting into the feasibility of using "psychic" agents as part of their spy programme. These cards were part of that programme.
(It has been known for some time that America and the U.K. were conducting similar experiments. These cards, however, are the only tangible evidence of that fact).

It is known that the soviets carried out these experiments at a location known only as Building 77.
It seems that subjects were split into pairs; subject one, the "receiver", was locked into a bare room while subject two, the "sender", was lead around a specially-laid-out test area in the basement of Building 77.
The aim was for subject two to transmit details of his surroundings to subject one, back in the sealed room.

The test area consisted of the following elements;

• A door, that was unlocked by turning a dial so that an arrow pointed in one of four directions.
• Once opened, this revealed a room in which were.........

• All of these elements could be changed to produce an almost unlimited variation of test conditions.

These cards were used by the test controllers as a blueprint for the setting up of the test area.
The controller would take a random card and set the test area up according to the data on the chosen card.
This same card would then be used to compare with the impressions recorded by subject one in the sealed room.

There were unsubstantiated rumours that the controllers had connected both subjects to some kind of electric shock devices and both were subjected to "punishment incentives" if a piece of information was either wrongly sent or received.

There is no information available on the effectiveness or otherwise of the soviet tests, but the British Secret Service and the U.S. military kept detailed reports on all its experiments in this field. Unfortunately they are restricted information and unlikely to be cleared for release any time soon, if at all.

You borrow a coin from a spectator. You ask the spectator to sign the coin, on both sides, to verify that it is their signed coin that you are using. You show the spectator a balloon and ask them to place their signed coin inside the balloon. You then inflate and tie off the balloon. For effect, you can shake the balloon to verify that the signed coin is still inside. You then proceed to do the impossible; you start to pull out the spectator’s signed coin from inside the balloon. The spectator will see the coin emerging from the balloon. You then show that, in fact, there is no hole in the balloon for the coin to emerge from. As an additional kicker, you can burst the balloon and then show it repaired.

About The Design

 These cards are named Smith in honor of Marshall D. Smith, the illustrator of The Expert at the Card Table. The pattern is actually made up of tiny reproductions of the illustrations from the book.

The Erdnase 1902 brand cards apply the original faces used by U.S. Playing Card Co. in 1902. These great faces have somewhat larger pips and somewhat smaller indices which combine to create an unusually attractive face. The head playing card researcher of US Playing Card Co. supervised all aspects of production of these cards, including overseeing production of printing the backs, embossing, crushing and the final cutting and casing at the U.S. Playing Card Co. factory.

These are among the finest cards the US Playing Card Co. has produced and we're grateful to have made a deal with The Conjuring Arts to offer them to you. The cards were printed in a very limited quantity and there is no guarantee that they will be re-printed.

“Element” will literally cause your spectators to question their own beliefs.  Whilst explaining a little about pseudo sciences such as “Cartomancy” and “Numerology” your spectators are requested to make several seemingly random choices.  Despite the utter fairness of each phase their choices culminate in a devastating coincidence, perhaps convincing them that there may be a certain element of truth to all of these theories!

"The Door" is not a single effect but is instead the opening to a world of possibilities.

Included within this package are two sets of unique marked cards for the modern mentalist. These are highly customizable using a sharpie pen (not supplied). To whet your appetite we have included two devastating routines that your audiences are sure to enjoy.

The first is a cunningly clever version of the "Jazz Mentalism" ESP routine created by Dave Humphrey. The second is an amazing routine titled "Pocket Calculator" by Dale Shrimpton that leaves the audience with no question that you have developed a sixth sense!

"The Door" comes complete with a wallet which contains two sets of five blank faced cards.  These cards have been coded with the amazing Beyond ESP marking system.  The plastic laminate finish on the card stock allows you to customise them with a regular "Sharpie" pen.  If you wish to change what is written upon the cards at any point you may do so using the clever little secret contained within the instructions.

The performer begins by inviting a spectator on stage to share something very unique with them.  The performer introduces a small brown cardboard box to the spectator with a label on it that says Magic Gremlins in a Box. The label resembles that of the old vintage comic book ads for such things as X-Ray Specs or Sea Monkeys to name a couple.

The performer begins to tell his audience that he acquired his Magic Gremlins by ordering them from an old comic book he had lying around in the attic... and low and behold this is what he received and for only USD $2.98 plus shipping and handling of course.

He tells the spectator that the box is indeed full of Magic Gremlins, however they are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye but they are so powerful that they can lift and move objects 1 million times their own body weight.

Now the magic begins! The performer asks the spectator to stand back and hands them a pair of sunglasses to wear, the performer also wears his own pair, and carefully opens the lid to the box and a green radioactive glow emits from within, gaining hilarious reactions.

The performer now places the box on a near by table and steps away as he says the Magic Gremlins can be very unpredictable if handled incorrectly. He calls over to the Gremlins to see if they are awake and ready to play. The box then begins to shake and rock from side to side and moves all by itself on the table top proving that the box is indeed full of real live Magic Glowing Gremlins.

The performer states that unlike Sea Monkeys, these small and adorable creatures can actually be taught how to perform real tricks. They are so intelligent that the performer tells his spectator that he has actually taught the Gremlins how to perform not just a trick but an amazing MAGIC trick.

A deck of cards is introduced and a card is selected. The chosen card is replaced, lost inside the deck and shuffled by the spectator. The entire deck is now placed inside the glowing box full of Magic Gremlins. After some comical by-play, the performer now asks the Gremlins to also shuffle the deck, and the box begins to shake and rock sided to side etc, as if the cards are actually being shuffled. He then asks the Gremlins to search for the spectator's chosen card. The box begins to move once again and then amazingly the box leans forward slightly toward the audience by itself and a card pops up out of the top of the glowing box. The performer takes the card and shows it to the spectator and the audience, and incredibly it is indeed the chosen card! AMAZING!

But the routine isn't over just yet. The magician puts the card back into the box and brings out a Sharpie and says "The amazing Magic Gremlins will now sign the card for you as a souvenir". The Sharpie is placed inside the box, and after some more comical by-play the Sharpie begins to move. The end of the Sharpie is seen sticking out of the top of the box as it wiggles around inside the box apparently as if the Gremlins are really signing the chosen card! The Sharpie then stops, and the performer asks the Gremlins if the card is signed, and then tries to take the Sharpie out of the box but each time the Gremlins move it just out of the reach of the magician, creating a hilarious interaction. "It's so hard to find good gremlins these days" the performer says. He asks the Gremlins to play nice, and they abide by letting the performer finally remove the Sharpie. The Sharpie is removed and the box tilts slightly forward as the card pops back out, but this time it has a signature across the face that says:

THE MAGIC GREMLIN

The card is then given to the spectator to keep as a souvenir.
The performer now asks for a big round of applause and the Gremlins tilt the box forward once again for a final bow!

This effect comes complete with Peter's own hilarious routine scripted with lines and easy to follow programming instructions on a CD Rom for his particular routine. However Magic Gremlin's in a Box is so versatile that you can create your programs yourself and create your own routines.

This electronic marvel boasts "ON UNIT" programming with out any aid of other devices, computers, software etc. All the programming is done on the unit itself. The entire trick is self contained within its own box. It is also fully remote controlled with a single button on a tiny key chain remote, and now boasts a new Pause Feature so your program can be paused during the routine, and start up again with a push of button on the tiny key chain remote that fits inside your pocket. You can also program delays with your own time duration right into your routine such as one at the very beginning so that after you hit the button on the remote your hands will be in full view and out of your pocket when the prop actually begins to move.

The label on the front of the box is stressed slightly to look like an authentic vintage ad or label from an old 1950's comic book. Other alternatives for your story could also incorporate how this was obtained from an underground traveling flea market, or perhaps you obtained the Magic Gremlins from a shady looking drifter from a back alley in the city. These, among other demonstrations, include "seeing through" a heavy iron box to reveal which card a spectator has reversed in the deck, AND IT'S EXACT POSITION in said deck. It is a demonstration repeated over and over, the conditions becoming more stringent every time.

The show, presented in all seriousness, can play for thirty minutes or an hour and a half. It leaves the audience completely convinced that I have the powers of X-Ray Vision-even with a full disclaimer. This, my friends, is real bread and butter stuff.

Secretly, I have always wanted a "casual" demonstration of these supposed powers-something that could be performed with any deck of cards, at any time!

And, that's exactly what we have here, in THE XRAY DECK. Steve has done a wonderful job, completely solving the problem-creating a practical, perform anywhere solution for the effect. He's then gone on to clearly and concisely detail every nuance of his clever and direct method.

The XRay effect
The performer removes a deck from the case and gives it a complete shuffle. He thumbs through the deck to demonstrate that all the cards are different, and the deck is complete. Placing the deck on the table, he instructs the spectator that he will leave the room. While the performer is gone, the spectator is to cut the deck anywhere with a simple cut, turn the card cut to face up, memorize the card, and put the cut off portion back on the deck, leaving the selection face up. The spectator is then to take the deck, put it in the case and seal the case, leave the cased deck on the table, and signal the magician to return to the room. The performer leaves the room, the spectator does as instructed and the performer returns.

The performer explains that he has developed an uncanny ability to see the hidden-almost a type of X-Ray vision. Without ever touching the case, the performer focuses an intense gaze on the boxed deck. Much to the astonishment of onlookers, he reveals the name of the card that has been inverted!

But now things get even crazier. He again focuses his gaze on the box, and finally calls out a number. Again, he never touches the box. He instructs the spectator to take the cards out of the box, and deal the cards one at a time onto the table face up, counting for each card dealt. Tension builds as the spectator nears the number called. When the number is reached, there is the spectator's face up card! Not only has the performer accurately perceived the chosen card in a deck sealed in a box, but he named the actual position of the card as well!

HISTORY
German magician Bruno Hennig invented the "Signed Card To Box". This powerhouse effect has seen countless improvements and modifications over the decades since it's creation.

The effect has been used by thousands of magicians and has fooled countless spectators. The effect is so powerful that many magicians close their shows with it. But every magician that has used this classic has always had a single thought in the back of their mind...if I could just do this, it would be perfect. The Lightning Box is perfect!

THE DREAM
I've been personally performing the "Signed Card To Box" since my earliest days in magic. I've tried all of the variations. While many of them worked and were very good like most magicians that have used the effect I kept thinking "what if it could just do this...".

So in the mid-1990's I set out to create the perfect container for the effect. First I created some very stringent goals.

1. The box must look like an ordinary object.
2. The box must be able to work with any color/ back design playing card plus other objects such as money, business cards and billets. The objects must be the complete objects so the spectators can see depth.
3. The box must be able to use the Jamy Ian Swiss work for ultimate deception.
4. The box must be durable and able to withstand countless performances for professional use.
5. The box must have the ability to be shown empty both BEFORE and AFTER the revelation.
6. The lid must stay on for transport but be easy to remove.
7. The container must easily go through airport security.
8. The Reset must be automatic.

THE SOLUTION
After countless prototypes I finally developed a working model. It worked but to be perfect I enlisted the help of professionals.

Thomas Wayne and Royal Jenner contributed concepts. Mike Lapidus did the final design and built the final prototype. Thanks to these gentleman for doing a great job.

The process of going from my working model to the final prototype took four years. Constant testing and fine-tuning have paid off. The LIghtning Box is no longer a pipe dream.

The Lightning Box has solved all of the problems and meet my goals.

1. The Lightning Box looks like a high quality jewelry box. I modeled after a cuff link box I purchased.
2. Users can very easily swap out the object inside the box. It takes about one minute. You can use any playing card, any type of paper currency from any country, you can use business cards or billets. Many other objects will certainly find there way into the Lightning Box for example sugar packets, small envelopes etc. It's up to the user to decide. The best part is all objects are real objects. Spectators can see all three dimensions because the objects are full cards etc.
3. The LIghtning Box is a cylinder with a removable lid. It's small enough to easily fit into your pocket. The CNC machining was designed to leave plenty of space so that you can add other objects that will fall out of the box to increase the illusion. The box is deep enough to easily contain .75" casino dice, 4 half dollars, candy, mints etc. Any small objects can be used.
4. The material we used to construct the Lightning Box is Black ABS Plastic. The material works real well for this application. It's tough and durable yet it's very lightweight. No sagging pockets. The Lightning Box is manufactured by a very high end CNC machine shop on computer controlled lathes and milling machines. Each Lightning Box is exactly the same and built to exacting specifications.
5. You can show the Lightning Box empty at the beginning of the routine and empty again after the signed card is revealed.
6. The lid is held in place by a high impact "O" ring that is used for hydraulic applications. It holds the lid in place yet it's easy for the spectators to remove. The Lightning Box comes with a backup that you can install in seconds if you ever wear it out.
7. The Lightning Box goes through airport security like butter. Professionals can easily take it on the plane with them.
8. Reset time is instantaneous. No trap doors to pry open or attempting to balance in an open position. The Lightning Box does the work for you.

The Lightning Box
So what is come included with the Lightning Box?

First and most important is the Lightning Box. This box is gimmicked. The solution is diabolical yet extremely practical. It is built to last. The best way to think about the Lightning Box is as a utility prop. It's super easy to use as the Lightning Box does most of the work for you.

An Introduction
Corporate entertainer Anthony Lindan has closed every engagement for the past fifteen years with his Incredible Suit Jacket Escape. Honed over thousands of performances in every possible environment and for every kind of audience the Incredible Suit Jacket Escape is large scale, one-man illusion that fills a stage and fits in a briefcase.

Routine Description
The performer explains that he would like to close his show with an homage to the incredible magician and escape artist Harry Houdini. One of Harry Houdini's amazing feats was to escape from a straight jacket. Now it was legendary that Houdini was in such peak physical shape that he was able to dislocate body parts and free himself from some of the toughest straight jackets ever manufactured. The performer admits that he is not exactly in the phenomenal physical condition Houdini was, so in honour of the great master, he will attempt to escape from his own suit jacket! As the audience laughter dies down, the performer explains that to make things more challenging, his hands will be cuffed together, making it nearly impossible for him to make his escape. Two volunteers are invited to the stage to inspect the handcuffs and locks, and proceed to lock the performers hands behind his back. A curtain that encircles the performer is raised by the two volunteers. It's at this point that the hilarious mayhem begins! The curtain is raised and lowered several times, each time revealing the performer (and his jacket) in more and more ludicrous physical positions. The jacket is half on half off, then it's on completely backwards, then it's almost off but the cuffs are snagged painfully between the performer's legs! Impossibly the jacket ends up hanging free from the performer's head and his hands are still cuffed behind his back! Suddenly he offers a free hand to shake the hand of the volunteer on his left and just a suddenly he offers his other to shake the volunteer's hand on his right, and the audience laughs their way into a huge round of applause!

Well, basically it is a method of doing readings that uses 4 small sticks.

Why do we get SO excited about these silly sticks? Well, lots of reasons. They are VISUAL, they are interesting to look at. Very vew people have ever seen them, so unlike Tarot and Palmistry where people may decide to argue with you about meanings, with Fidh Lan YOU are the expert right away!

Each stick has a single spot on one side, and the opposite side has two spots. When the sticks are laid down one above the other, they can form 1 of 16 patterns.

Each pattern is a simple pictograph that represents something. From this, the reading grows. Some of the things that make Fidh Lan SO awesome is that it is small, light weight, visible, easy to learn, easy to understand, few of your clients will have seen or heard of it before so there are no pre-conceived ideas or fears as with Palms or Tarot.

On the DVD rom portion of the DVD, we decided to include a PITCH BOOK which you may print up and sell and use for Back Of Room Sales! This is an awesome money making bonus for those who do psychic house parties, and the sticks are unusual enough that many will want to learn more about them.

Tarot cards are harder to learn, and some people can be downright scared of them- not good for all clients. Palm reading is more complex, and can be tricky for the first time reader, and in some situations might be too intimate. Fidh Lan, a simplified form of Geomancy, is easy to learn, looks like nothing they have seen before and by its nature looks kind of magical and different.

The sticks can also be "themed" to fit a variety of different kinds of events. They can become Wizard sticks, Witch Lots, Fairy Twigs and many other things. The basic method can be adapted to reading shells, coins, dirt- or even done with a pad and paper.

We cover ways to do a simple quickie reading, answer a question, and more in depth methods of reading that use various colors and levels to add complexity to the reading. We teach a basic one figure reading, as well as more complex readings using Tarot-type "spreads."

Volume two offers sample readings, many suggestions on the business side of things and ways to make MONEY doing readings, psychic house parties and more!

Haiku is a form of codified poetry that first appeared in Japan in the second half of the seventeenth century.  It consists of a collection of very short texts, usually three lines, describing an image, a landscape, an emotion, a feeling.

Introducing the book to your spectator you ask them to select any page (genuine free and unknown choice) they are further instructed to silently read the text to themselves.

Once the spectator has done this they are instructed to hide the book and are asked to visualize what they have just read.

Without asking any questions the mentalist is able to accurately describe the spectators thoughts or even draw the very image they have in their mind.

The book itself is very appealing to look at and handle and since it is more than a word revelation it creates a powerful and lasting impression with your audience.

The Inexplicable Bill in Lemon Effect - A reputation-making effect where a bill, marked in three completely different ways, is found inside of a lemon taken from a small, sealed box that was in the possession of a member of the audience. This is one of Barrie Richardson's most commercial effects. What's more, the routine is virtually self-working!

The Incredible Water Glass Suspension - A metaphor for how important it is to let go of things in our lives if we wish to change, the performer dips a wooden spoon into a large transparent glass of water and then removes his hand, leaving the heavy glass suspended in space.

A Gift to the Audience: To Risk - A poem by Hedda Gold - If Barrie only had five minutes and had to make a choice between performing a trick and reciting a poem that had meaning for most of the audience, he would choose the poem...and this one is one of his favorites.
