You talk about the power of the flames and how images can sometimes materialize from the ashes, how the images can become really strong and powerful. Is it our minds? Or maybe our imagination? What is real and what is not?
As you explain, you proceed and hand a spectator a felt tip pen and a piece of tissue paper with the request that he will either write a number upon ti if he is a business type person, or a letter if he is more of romantic. You then ask him to show the audience what he has written. When he has done this, you tell him to crumple the piece of tissue paper and place it in an ashtray. You then hand him a box of matches (or a lighter) and ask him to burn the paper until it turns to nothing but burnt ashes. You then proceed and reach into the ashes. Routines performed and explained:

Poker Smoker: 
You continuously shuffle the deck and let the spectator cut while you continually deal the aces to yourself. 

Nash Multiple Shift Routine: 
The four aces are lost in different parts of the deck. After one shuffle all the aces come to the top. They are once again shuffled into the deck and are now found at the bottom. 

Pseudo Marked Deck Sequence: 
The four aces are lost in the deck face-up. You then deal a round of poker dealing all the face-up aces to yourself using the Nash Multi-Center. 

Ten To One:
The Ace through ten of Diamonds are lost in different parts of the deck and the deck is shuffled. A spectator selects a card and it too is lost in the deck. A second spectator names a number between 1-10. After a shuffle the top ten cards are dealt face up with the named number remaining face down. The selected card is the face down card and the missing card is found face up in the deck.

Daryl/Nash Trapped: 
A card is selected and lost in the deck. The spectator takes half the deck and springs the cards unto the table. You then use your half of the deck as tweezers and use it to pluck the selected card from springing cards. 

Jacks Or Better: 
This is Martin's favorite routine and the one he uses when he has to impress. The 13-minute card routine, which is usually used to close his shows, is a multiphase routine where selected cards are continuously lost in the deck and are repeatedly found between the two face-up Jacks. Each phase becomes more impossible as the conditions become more difficult until the finale when a merely thought-of card appears between the two face-up Jacks.

The spectator selects a card.  You then proceed to rip out the center of the card.  The spectaor writes their initials on the center piece and keeps it as a reciept.

What the heck are Fidh Lan Sticks?

Well, basically it is a method of doing readings that uses 4 small sticks.

Why do we get SO excited about these silly sticks? Well, lots of reasons. They are VISUAL, they are interesting to look at. Very vew people have ever seen them, so unlike Tarot and Palmistry where people may decide to argue with you about meanings, with Fidh Lan YOU are the expert right away!

Each stick has a single spot on one side, and the opposite side has two spots. When the sticks are laid down one above the other, they can form 1 of 16 patterns.

Each pattern is a simple pictograph that represents something. From this, the reading grows. The World's Most Fantastic Card-In-Wallet

All the action takes place in the spectator's pocket - not yours!

I have been trying for a long time to find another maker. No one seemed able to get it right until Tony Curtis came up with just the job and made for me in Thailand.. I have a quantity of the wallets but I am just finishing off a complete rewrite and re-design of the instruction booklet and packaging and I hope to have the artwork from my designer ready for printing during the coming week. 

The price of the wallet and instructions is £45 plus whatever it costs for post and packing. Any of the rip-off merchants many of whom are receiving publicity in this newsletter had better be warned that if they attempt to copy the wallet they will be in trouble as the wallet is the subject of a patent application in the US and the UK. Rip it off at your peril. Take the instructions and you will be in breach of copyright. So beware. This protection has cost more than I would like to say and rip-offs will be the subject of legal action! 

For those who don't know; the Horwitz Wallet enables the performer to perform a number of effects including the miracle card in wallet effect. What makes this wallet so different that all the changes and the tricky business all takes place when the SPECTATOR put the wallet in his own pocket. Everything is done openly and there is no palming involved. The wallet has inspired a number of effects many of which are in the book of instructions. There is a brilliant Just Chance with Bank Notes and Envelopes which are burnt. One of the best effects with the wallet baffled everyone when Basil first demonstrated it. A card is selected and signed and placed in the wallet and then put in a spectator's pocket. the spectator is then blindfolded The spectator is asked to hold his arm or hand over the pocket containing the wallet. The performer openly pickpockets the spectator and removes the signed card from the wallet and put the wallet back in the spectator's pocket. 

The crunch is that the spectator has no idea how he has been pickpocketed until the performer shows that he now has the signed card and the spectator discovers to his amazement that the wallet in his pocket is completely empty. Be warned that this great effect requires two Horwitz Wallets. 

Back in 1982 Basil Horwitz gave a special seminar on the wallet here at the IBM Convention which was held at my new home town of Brighton. The Seminar was unusual in that all participants had to be the owners of one of these wallets. At least fifty people turned up for what might well be described as the most exciting event of that IBM Convention.

A famous puzzle is brought to life with this simple-to-do and highly entertaining routine which seems to defy logic!

THE FAMOUS PUZZLE...
"Three diners finish their meal. The waiter says the check is $30, so each guest pays $10. Later the waiter realizes the check should only be $25.

To rectify this, the waiter returns a dollar bill to each of the three diners and they give the final $2 to the waiter, as a tip for his honesty.

Now that each diner has been given $1 back, each has paid $9, taking the total paid to $27. Add to that the $2 tip they gave to the waiter and the total is $29.

If the guests originally paid $30, where did the missing dollar go?"

THE ROUTINE
After the above puzzle has been told the magician explains that maybe it would be easier to work out what happens to the final dollar if he uses real money as he tells the story.

That being said he clearly shows $30 and with actions to match the story, the money is re-counted and bizarrely a real one dollar bill is missing!

A final bill is added to once again total $30. The spectators confirm there are definitely $30. Once more the process is repeated and astonishingly the result is the same. A bill disappears!

A true mystery which seems unexplainable and one which they can retell and enjoy long after you have parted.

Imagine having a card selected from a regular deck, signed and then ripped in two, one piece to be kept by the spectator. A sticker is now stucK to the back of the playing card and the name of the card is written on the it for all to see. The magician now BORROWS ANY I-PHONE and takes a photo of the selected card on the SPECTATORS HAND, captured forever in their phone.

NOW FOR THE AMAZING PART!

The magician takes the card and shows the back containing the sticker. He now places a lighter flame over the card and magically the letters now morph into the word gone. When the card is turned around it is now BLANK. The card really has vanished!
